11. WHAT IS EYE DONATION ?

12.  Eyes should be donated within 6-8 hrs. of death.  Only the cornea is used for transplant.  One cornea is grafted to one person.  Total removal time is about 15-20 minutes.  Spectacle wearers, hypertensive and diabetics can also donate.  Eyes are not bought or sold.  All religions endorse eye donation.  10cc of blood sample is collected from the donor’s body for testing. 15. IMPEDIMENTS TO EYE DONATION  Religious taboos.  Lack of awareness.  Fear of disfigurement.  Apathy/ Forgetfulness.  Lack of favourable legislation.

16. WHAT YOU CAN DO?  Help us spread awareness about Eye Donation.  Consent to donate eyes of your close relatives and friends.  Motivate family members of the person who has died in your area for eye donation.  Organise talks, presentations and pledging camps etc. to propagate the message of Eye Donation.  Become our VOLUNTEER
