Antananarivo Antananarivo is the capital city of Madagascar. It is also known to tourists as Tana. The University of Madagascar officially opened it’s doors in 1965. However it had been previously named Institute for Advanced Studies which opened on December 16, 1955. It is the only university in Madagascar that provides a Ph.D. and has since opened five more locations over the island. Ruins of Rova The Queens Palace or known to the locals as the Manjakamiadana Palace was tragically burnt down in 1995 and became known as the Ruins of Rova. The Ruins of Rova can still be visited today even though a lengthy renovation has begun to take place to restore one of Madagascar’s greatest landmarks.

Nosy Be Nosy Be is Madagascar’s premier resort island known for its distinctive smell that is a mingle of the islands natural fauna. While staying at Nosy- Be tourists are encouraged to shop at the Hell Ville or watch in the trees for the infamous native lemurs.

Shopping in Hell Ville Hell-Ville is the hot spot of the island of Nosy-Be. With it’s shopping, nightlife, and multiple beach activities it makes for a wonderful stop for any traveler. The Old Prison of Nosy-Be Rue Passot prison was built in 1855 when the island was still a French colony. What is left of the old prison can still be visited today along with the local graveyard.

Parc National de L’ Isalo This is Madagascar’s leading national parks which is home to Canyon des Singes pictured below. With numerous walking trails and swimming holes it is a hikers dream. However, the park recommends visiting during the cooler months of the year (April-October) and park fees vary depending on the length of the activity. Open 7:00am-5:00pm

Parc National de Ranomofana Parc National de Ranamafana This is Madagascar’s fourth largest national park and is located in the southeastern region of the island. It is known mainly for it’s mountainous terrain and for it’s abundance in hot springs. Tourists will enjoy hiking, canoeing, and animal watching.
