Early retirment programmes The only possibility to retire earlier is if the employer buys the working period at the pension fund for the worker. As is it almost impossible to lay off an older worker, companies use this possibility. 12

Definition of “older worker” The law defines male workers as old at the age of 55 and a woman currently at the age of 52 years and 8 month (2008) The age limit for woman shall be gradually equalized to men in steps of 4 month per year; thus in 2015 it will be the same age for men and women. Some colletive agreements have set the age limit for females (and men) at 50 years. 13
