History of Valentine's Day Valentine’s Day has always been the day dedicated to lovers. There are many stories as to how Valentine’s Day started.

Valentine was an Italian bishop who lived in the 3d century A.D.

February 14 was also a Roman holiday. On this day young men randomly chose the name of the girl to escort to the festival. The custom of сhoosing a sweetheart on this day became very popular in the Europe. Later this custom spread to American colonies.

Nowdays S S S St.Valentine’s Day is a day of sweethearts. On this day people show their love to friends, relatives, husbands and wives.

People send candies in the shape of hearts to those whom they love.

Also people give red roses (symbols of love) to their sweethearts.

Most people send “valentines”, greeting cards named after St.Valentine’s letters written from jail.

This holiday has a long history and a lot of traditions but it gives us a chance to tell the dearest and nearest people about love.
