Confucius Leadership Styles Born 8-27-551 B.C. Died 11-21-479 B.C. Born 8-27-551 B.C. Died 11-21-479 B.C. The sayings of Confucius were remembered by his followers and were later compiled in a book called Analects. Confucius formulate the equivalent of the Golden Rule ("do unto othersGolden Rule as you would have them do unto you")? Is his a stronger injunction or a less demanding one?

Niccolo Machiavelli Leadership Styles Born 5-3-1469, Died 6-21-1527 Born 5-3-1469, Died 6-21-1527 Niccolo Machiavelli was a Florentine statesman and political philosopher. As a theorist, Machiavelli was the key figure in realistic political theory, crucial to European statecraft during the Renaissance. The book called The Prince, was written in 1517. It is a powerful and insightful look into the mind of a master politician who has an uninhibited sense of honesty and bluntness that leaves the reader staggered with astonishment. Written after his own political demise, the book takes a sincere and yet cynical position in construing his ideas. Niccolo Machiavelli was only interest in directly discussing the element of power. His book The Prince goes directly to the indisputable of proverbs of power for the leader to follow like a strategy.

Jean Jacques Rousseau Leadership Styles Born 6-28-1712, Died 7-2-1778 Born 6-28-1712, Died 7-2-1778 Jean Rousseau's most important work perhaps is “The Social Contract” that describes the relationship of man with society. The Social Contract, or Principles of Political Right is the book in which Rousseau theorized about the best way in which to set up a political community in the face of the problems of commercial society which he had already identified in his Discourse on Inequality. Jean Rousseau's most important work perhaps is “The Social Contract” that describes the relationship of man with society. The Social Contract, or Principles of Political Right is the book in which Rousseau theorized about the best way in which to set up a political community in the face of the problems of commercial society which he had already identified in his Discourse on Inequality. One of the main principles of his political philosophy is that political and morality should not be separated, because when a state fails to act in a moral fashion, its ceases to function in the proper manner and ceases to apply true authority over the individual. The second principle which is important is freedom, which the state is created to preserve.

Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Styles Born 10-2-1869, Died 1-30-1948 Born 10-2-1869, Died 1-30-1948 The philosophy with which Mahatma Gandhi led his life can be summed up with his quote, "When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it - always". Two of Gandhi’s quote about non-violence are: “I can not teach you, as I do not myself believe in it. I can only teach you not to bow your heads before any one even at the cost of your life.” “I object to violence because when its appears to do good, the good is only temporary’ the evil it does is permanent.”

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Styles Born 1-15-29, Died 4-4-68 Born 1-15-29, Died 4-4-68 The letter that Martin Luther King, Jr., addressed to his fellow clergymen while he was in jail in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1963, after a nonviolent protest against racial segregation. King defended the apparent impatience of people in the civil rights movement, maintaining that without forceful actions like his, equal rights for black people would never be gained. King upheld the general use of nonviolent civil disobedience against unjust laws, saying that human rights must take precedence over such laws. He claimed that “one who breaks an unjust law must do it openly, lovingly”; such a person, King said, is actually showing respect for law, by insisting that laws be just.
