Creating Gantt Chart with Excel Step 2 Simplest kind of Gantt chart involves a worksheet range, with the tasks listed in first column, and dates in the top row. If a date along the top falls between the start and end dates for that task, the cell in the same row as the task is shaded.

Gantt Chart Question You are Project Manager for the design, development and implementation of a new computer-based system to assist in scheduling of conferences and seminars for your client, Shirley Knott. You have activities planned, and estimate of staff resources required each day for each activity, as given in the table below. Note that Monday 7 May and Monday 28 May are Bank Holidays, and are therefore not working days.
23
Gantt Chart Question ActivityDurationStaff needed each day Cost per person per day Overall cost per day Overall cost per activity A341 @ £50 3 @ £40 B741 @ £65 3 @ £55 C83£70 D62£60 E43£45 F54
24
Gantt Chart Question Note the following constraints: Activity A is first activity and starts on day 0. Activity B starts when activity A has finished. Activities C and D must start on the same working day, and can start as soon as activity B finishes. Activity E can start when activity C finishes. Activity F can start when activity D finishes. Saturday and Sunday are not working days.
25
Gantt Chart Question You are now required to calculate overall cost per day of each activity within the project, using Table above. You should now calculate overall cost of each activity within the project, using Table above. What is the total cost in terms of staff resources for this project? Now construct a Gantt chart showing each activity in the project, using the Gantt Chart below.
26
Gantt Chart Question Show the cost per working day and staff resources, using the Gantt Chart you have constructed. Which are the peak working day(s) for staff costs and staff resources in this project, and what is the expenditure and staff resources involved? How long does this project last (i.e. how many working days), and on what date is it finished?

31
Gantt Chart You should note that all activities must start as soon as possible; you should also take into account the dependencies between the activities described below: Activity B must start three days after Activity A has started; Activity C cannot start until both Activity A and Activity B have finished;
32
Gantt Chart There must be a gap of at least two working days (which can be split by a weekend) between the end of Activity C and the start of Activity D; Activity D and Activity E must start on the same working day; Activity D must have finished before Activity F can start; Activity F must run on 5 consecutive working days (not split by a weekend). Activity F must finish before Activity G can start.

Task 33
34
Gantt Chart Consider the following activities, which are part of a project scheduled to start on Monday 26 April 2010. Note that Saturday and Sunday are not working days, and that both Monday 3 May and Monday 31 May 2010 are Bank Holidays (therefore not working days). Only working days should be numbered; you should insert the number for each working day on your Gantt charts in the space provided.
