3 Remember the 3-C’s When treating an emergency Check Call Care

4 Check Check that the scene is safe for you. Be alert for hazards such as traffic, downed power lines, power equipment, and other hazards. The important thing is to help the victim and not create more victims. Check the victim from head to toe to assess injuries. If possible, get the victim’s name and contact info.

5 Call Call 911 or have someone else do it. Have the caller report back to you when they have made the call. Give the 911 operator infomation about ivctim.

6 Care First, obtain actual or implied consent.( Next Slide) Then, care for the victim until help arrives.

7 Consent or Permission to Treat Actual Consent Implied Consent

8 Actual Consent Oral or written permission from a mentally competent adult. Often times consent is given by parents in advance for the adult in charge to treat the child in the event of an emergency.

9 Implied Consent Assuming the victim would grant permission to receive first aid if he/she was capable to do so. The victim is unconucious. The victim is not mentally competent. The victim is a child and there is no adult present to grant permission.

10 Universal Precautions-Protect Yourself! If it’s wet and not yours, It’s dangerous!

11 Universal Precautions Wear disposable latex gloves. Wash our hands Use a face mask or shield when performing Rescue Breathing and CPR

12 Rescue Breathing and CPR First, Check for breathing and pulse For 5 seconds

13 If Victim is not Breathing Give Two Rescue Breaths Roll victim on their back Open Airway by tilting head back Use face mask or barrier Pinch nose Give two 1-second breaths, watch chest rise Check for breathing

14 Head Tilt Position

15 If the chest does not rise Check for airway obstruction

16 If there is no breathing or pulse Begin CPR

17 CPR 2 Breaths 30 Compressions

18 CPR Hand Position

19 Keep doing CPR Until Victim Responds or help arrives Infant CPR is Similar

20 Rescue Breathing for infants & small children Use small breaths

21 Infant Rescue Breathing

22 Infant CPR-Use 2 fingers Compress chest about 1/3 to ½ the depth of the chest

23 Rescue Breathing and CPR Practical Test To pass, you must: Check for breathing and pulse for 5 seconds. Give 2 Rescue Breaths 30 Compressions Repeat

24 First Aid and CPR Written tests.
