3 What Is CPR? -Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation - Pumping blood containing oxygen throughout the body -Also know as “saving a life”

4 Why is it important? -4 out of 5 cardiac arrests Happen at home -Failure to act may leave a loved one dead -Les then 8% of people who suffer from cardiac arrest survive if not helped in first 2 minutes

5 Equipment needed -1 CPR Mask -1 Set of Gloves -1 Phone (call 911)

6 Step 1. -Make sure the Scene is safe You don’t want to get hurt while trying to help someone

7 Step 2 Perform Primary Assessment -Look for anything life threatening -Check for pulse & breathing

8 CHECKING FOR PULSE -Either Brachial Pulse -Or Carotid Pulse This is The Brachial Pulse Carotid Pulse

9 Step 3 Calling For Help -Once you have determined that He is unconscious and not asleep -Direct someone to Call (911) -If Alone call from Cell Phone

10 Step 4 Open the airway -Place one hand on the fore head -Place two fingers in the chin -Tilt the head back

11 Step 4 Giving Breaths -Open the airway -Secure mask on face -Give a slow strong breath -Make sure the chest rises

12 Step 5A If the chest doesn’t rise. -If the chest doesn't rise -Re-tilt the head -Try to give them another breath

13 Step 5b Check for Breathing -Re-check if they are breathing -Use the LOOK/ LISTEN/FEEL Look for Chest to rise Listen to hear Breathing Feel on your cheek for breath

14 Step 6 Giving compressions -Find the middle of the chest -Hands on top of each other with fingers locked -Locked elbows

15 Compression to Breath Ratios Single Rescuer Two Rescuer Adult30/2 Child30/215/2 Infant15/2

16 Proper CPR Position Correct Postion To far from the person

17 AED -Turn On AED -Place Pads on chest -Plug Pads in to AED -Stand Clear While it monitors -Shock if Advised Place Pads On the Persons Chest

18 AED Pad Placement ⇒Place one PAD On Upper ⇒Place other pad On Left Ribs

19 When To Stop CPR ⇾Only stop if the Scene become unsafe ⇾ More Qualified help come to relieve you ⇾You become to tired to continue

20 Legal Considerations -If a person is Unconscious Consent is implied - Must ask a parent/ guardian for permission if person is under 18

21 Legal Consideration -Good Samaritan Law -Allows you to help some one without them suing you - Duty to Act -If certified Professional rescuer You have a to act
