The four key areas of activity are: Providing an independent certification of the trade chain, licensing use of the FAIRTRADE Mark as a consumer guarantee on products Facilitating the market to grow demand for Fair-trade and enable producers to sell to traders and retailers Working with our partners to support producer organisations and their networks Raising public awareness of the need for Fair-trade and the importance of the FAIRTRADE Mark

Facts and Figures Indian Products Producers Fair Trade Local Information These Devine chocolate boxes come from Ghana and can be bought for £3.95 The producer is called Kuapa Kokoo, which is a co-op union of 937 village societies, representing about 40,000 farmers. They currently sell about 650 tonnes of cocoa to the fair trade market each year. They say that, "Through Fairtrade and Kuapa we now have a lot of progress. We have good drinking water, toilet facilities and schools. Kuapa pay the farmers on time and there is no cheating. We meet every two weeks to share our problems and we are all involved in deciding how our fair trade premium is spent. The producer is Saidpur Enterprises is based in the small town of Saidpur in Northern Bangladesh. It comprises two sister organisations, Action Bag and Eastern Screen Printers (ESP). It has close links with Prokritee, as both have grown out of the work of the Mennonite Central Committee, a relief and development organisation working across Bangladesh. Many communities have seen improvements in women’s rights and standars have been improving. Many young girls can now have an education, that without the project, they would not have.

Facts and Figures Indian Products Producers Fair Trade Local Information There are many shops that sell fair trade products in our area… The Co-operative have been supporting Fairtrade since the inception of the 'Fairtrade mark' back in 1994. And in 1998 they launched their own long-term plan to 'mainstream' Fairtrade. They sell a number of fair trade products. This includes fair trade wine, chocolate, coffee, tea, sugar, bananas, blue berries and flowers. The nearest Co-operative can be found at - 6, Southgate Avenue CF72 8DR Tesco extra have a wide range of Fairtrade-certified goods available at Tesco, with everything from Finest tea, coffee and nuts, to fruit, wine and chocolate.
