What is child labour? Definition of child (UNCRC and ILO) – a person under 18 years Child labour means types of work for which the child is too young and work that harms a child’s well-being and hinders his/her education, development & future livelihood. Defined by: ILO Convention 138 on minimum age for work (166 ratifications) and ILO Convention 182 on worst forms of child labour (179 ratifications) BUT not all economic activity of children under the age of 18 is child labour (inter alia: individual permits may be granted for artistic performances).
