LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #1: “Good morning, Lord...” Not like the way you greet your co-worker. But like w/ your spouse on your honeymoon; Like the start of a big day of adventure together.
5
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” 1 Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked. 2 You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy? 3 Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. 4 Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. 5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 43

LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” 1 Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? 2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises. 3 He boasts about the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord. 4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. 5 His ways are always prosperous; your laws are rejected by him; he sneers at all his enemies. 6 He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.” He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.” Psalm 10:1-6
7
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” 7 His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. 8 He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent. His eyes watch in secret for his victims; 9 like a lion in cover he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net. 10 His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. 11 He says to himself, “God will never notice; he covers his face and never sees.” Psalm 10:7-11

LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” 12 Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. 13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, “He won’t call me to account”? 14 But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. 15 Break the arm of the wicked man; call the evildoer to account for his wickedness that would not otherwise be found out. 16 The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. 17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror. Psalm 10:12-18

LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” 9 I say to God my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?” 10 My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 11 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:9-11
10
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” 22 Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. 23 Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever. 24 Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression? 25 We are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground. 26 Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love. Psalm 44:22-26
11
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” 14 Why, Lord, do you reject me and hide your face from me? 15 From my youth I have suffered and been close to death; I have borne your terrors and am in despair. 16 Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me. 17 All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me. 18 You have taken from me friend and neighbor— darkness is my closest friend. Psalm 88:14-18
12
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” Be like Hannah: 1 Samuel 1:6-7 “ 6 Because the L ORD had closed Hannah’s womb, her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her. 7 This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the L ORD, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat.” 1 Samuel 1:12-14 “ 12 As she kept on praying to the L ORD, Eli observed her mouth. 13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.” 1 Samuel 1:15 “... I was pouring out my soul to the L ORD.”
13
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #2: “Lord, you know I’ve been feeling like you…” My example. Feelings of Frustration Friend wisely asked me, “Have you told the Lord about these frustrations?” Friend wisely stated, “Why don’t we ask the Lord what He wants to say about this?” The Lord’s reply, “It’s ok to cry.” Then His reply, “I saw everything that happened. I saw all your efforts. I didn’t miss anything. Thank you. Thank you for obeying when I called you to go to East Asia and when I called your family to live in the remote town. Thank you for your efforts to be my hands and feet there. Thanks for being my ambassadors.”
14
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #3: “Lord, thank you for this difficulty because…” 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4
15
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #3: “Lord, thank you for this difficulty because…” How do we do this? What is there to be thankful for? Example: The goal of life is not to find a way for life to go smoothly. Why do we so strongly desire for things to go smoothly? Because we’ve been created for heaven and one day this desire will be fulfilled. God is more concerned about our character than our comfort.
16
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #3: “Lord, thank you for this difficulty because…” 8 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. 9 Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, 11 as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many. 2 Corinthians 1:8-11
17
LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #3: “Lord, thank you for this difficulty because…” What you hum you become. When you sing like spring truths blossom from your heart. 26 What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. 1 Corinthians 14:26 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:19-20

LEARNING TO PRAY THE FOUR PRAYERS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE PRAYER #3: “Lord, thank you for this difficulty because…” What you hum you become; When you sing like spring truths blossom from your heart. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:15-17
