NSF Advisory Committee 11/18/2005 PAGE 2 Grants.gov Overview Is one of 24 Federal E-Government initiatives designed to improve access to services via the Internet Federal government’s single site for grants – Cross-agency initiative spanning 1000+ grant programs – 26 Federal grant-making agencies – $400B or 25% of the Federal budget Is a simple, unified “storefront” for all customers of Federal grants to electronically: – Find Grant Opportunities – Apply for Grants President’s Management Agenda and Public Law 106-107 – Allow applicants for Federal grants to apply for grants through a common website – Streamline and simplify grant application requirements – Reduce applicant and grantee administrative burden and costs

NSF Advisory Committee 11/18/2005 PAGE 3 Grants.gov Usage Highlights Find – 100% Funding Opportunities Available on Find in 2005 – 1.5 Hits per Week – 1.2 Emails per Week Apply – Over 35% of Funding Opportunities Available on Apply in 2005 – Over 18,000 Received since November 2003 15,000 Applications Received Since April 2005 – Registered Users Exceeds 21,000 – 1,700+ Agency Postings – 25 out of 26 Agencies Posted on Apply – Almost 100%

NSF Advisory Committee 11/18/2005 PAGE 5 Applicant System-to-System Deployed May 2005 Key Components: – Open Technical Standards – XML Schema & Web Services – Data Standardization – Research & Related Data Set & Agency Specific Forms – Simplification – Single Integration Point Benefits: – Eliminates the need to re-enter data into the Applicant Organization’s back-office grant system – Applicant manages workflow & roles within their environment – Allows Applicant Organizations to submit electronic applications via an XML file rather than PureEdge
