Pass around ditty bag to students allowing them to introduce themselves and pull something from the ditty bag. Discuss purpose and importance of each piece of gear pulled.

Parts of a Sailboat Small sailboat Sailboat daggerboard or centerboard, rudder-tiller assembly Sails Running Rigging Materials: (actual or diagrams illustrating them) Method: Introduce parts of a sailboat by asking students to hold a part of the boat, or to pick up an one of the items (sail bag, lines, fins, etc) arranged near the boat. Allow each student to present their part, helping them with the name and purpose of each. Demonstrate how to attach or rig each part.
