Today and tomorrow many of us will focus on remembering those who have gone before us both in in our personal families and remembering those who fought in our nation’s battles, many of whom made the supreme sacrifice to secure the freedoms we enjoy today. Today is also Pentecost Sunday on which we will remember how God’s Holy Spirit came into the world through Jesus’ disciples.

**THE OPENING HYMN #390 ‘SPIRIT OF GOD, DESCEND UPON MY HEART’ [ All who are able please stand ]
11
Spirit of God, (1) Descend upon my heart; Wean it from earth; Through all its pulses move; Stoop to my weakness, Mighty as You are; And make me love You As I ought to love.
12
Did You not bid us(2) Love You, God and King? All, all Your own, soul, Heart and strength and mind. I see Your cross; There teach my heart to cling: O let me seek You, And O let me find!
13
Teach me to know that(3) You are always near; Teach me the struggles Of the soul to bear. To check the rising doubt, The rebel sigh, Teach me the patience Of unanswered prayer.
14
Teach me to love You(4) As Your angels love, One holy passion Filling all my frame; The coming of the Heaven descended Dove, My heart an altar, And Your love the flame.
15
**AFFIRMING OUR FAITH AND NATION I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag, and to the Savior for whose Kingdom it stands; One Savior, crucified, risen and coming again, with life and liberty for all who believe. One family in Christ, uniting all believers in service and in love.
16
I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God's Holy Word: 'A lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path;' Its words will I hide in my heart that I might not sin against God.
17
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

THE HOLY SCRIPTURE ACTS 2:1-11 When the day of Pentecost had come, they [the disciples] were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue [of fire] rested on each of them.
26
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them [the disciples] speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked,"Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
27
And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language, Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea andCappadocia, Pontus andAsia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, andvisitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans andArabs... in our own languages, we hear them speaking about God's deeds of power.”
28
SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD (1) Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me. Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me; Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.
29
(2) Soul of heaven, heart of God, wash over me. Soul of heaven, heart of God, wash over me. Cleanse me, teach me, hold me, reach me. Soul of heaven, heart of God, wash over me.
30
(3) Holy presence, love divine, cast out my fear. Holy presence, love divine, cast out my fear. Shield me, free me, call me, lead me. Holy presence, love divine, cast out my fear.

Contrast the Amazon list... i.e., the individuated approach, “do-it-on-my-own,” “do-it-my-own-way,” “do-it-relying-only-on-myself,” to Acts Chapter Two where the disciples realized it was all about what GOD could do through the disciples.

1- If we gather together expectantly, 2- If we make ourselves available to God 3- If we allow God to invade us with a Holy Spirit endowed power and an energy that is not our own... our church will not only SURVIVE but it will PROSPER with >> the boldness and confidence, >> the passion and courage, >> the wisdom and insight to do in Christ’s name that which might seem impossible.
