Limewater/Calcium Hydroxide (CaOH) Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) Hydrochloric acid (HCI) safety glasses stopper/cork one-arm test tube test tube rack medium sized beaker (150 ml) small sized beaker (50ml) rubber tube

1.Setup the equipment as shown in the diagram.
5
2.Pour some limewater into the beaker 3.A small amount of calcium carbonate is added into the one-arm test tube 4.Pour some hydrochloric acid to the one-arm test tube 5.Quickly put the stopper on top of the one arm- test tube 6.Make sure the rubber tube is in the beaker which contains the limewater 7.Record the observations
6
When calcium carbonate was added to the hydrochloric acid, the solution fizzed, showing that there is gas produced. When the gas had reached the limewater, it had started to appear milky. To make sure the experiment was safe; you should wear safety glasses and be careful in handling the acids which might cause some irritation
7
Carbon dioxide gas was tested by adding calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid together. This had resulted for the limewater to emerge milky.
