2. Aim – presentation of the greatest tradition of celebrating the New Year’s Day We tried:  To find the roots of the tradition;  To compare the ways of celebrating this holiday throughout the years;  To prove that this tradition is worth being in future.

3. New Year’s Day was one of the first holidays which was celebrated not only in Krasnoyarsk, but all over the world, The date of its celebration was changed several times. Firstly, it was the 1 st of March, when people began to plant the crops. Then, with this day they celebrated the end of the harvest time on the 1 st of September. It was Peter the I who established the new date – the 1 st of January. Since 1700 this holiday is still hold on this day.

4. Many years ago people were not allowed to cut down the trees. That’s why the only thing they had to do is to find a tree nearby and decorate it with everything they had at home: sweets, old unnecessary clothes, different hand-made things. A lot has changed since that time. Nowadays every family can have a Christmas tree at home. It is usually decorated with lights, beautiful colourful balls and stars.

5. There are lots of Snow Towns where children of all ages can have fun. The shops are full of bright presents. Different performances with Father Frost and Snow Girl are organized for little children. Happiness on people’s faces.

6. What does this holiday give people? It unites people! It gives people hope for the better life in the next year! It makes everybody believe in wonder! It gives everybody fun and pleasure!
