Dyslexia A general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence.

Dyslexic symptoms The child is a late talker Pronunciation problem Difficulty rhyming words Impaired ability to learn basics e.g. alphabet, colours and numbers They have poor handwriting and poor fie motor skills The can confuse letters such as b and d. Difficulty with reading, spelling and writing Trouble with time and learning to tell the time as a child Difficulty reading maps They can also have trouble following sequences and can have difficulty telling left from right

treatment There is no known cure for dyslexia, however early intervention can help. understand there limitations Add more time for test and school work Write down there daily routine instead of verbal commands Seat the child near the teacher If you have a large section of writing underline every second line in alternate colours save the child the ordeal of reading aloud in class, pre reading can encourage self confidence Most dyslexic children have difficulty self correcting as they write, allow time after for proof reading Simplify math problems Put decimal points in a different colour to make in more obvious Allow extra time for homework When giving written instructions make it straight to the point with a clear layout to prevent confusion
