Agenda  About E-WarDD  Unit Operations and Machinery  Processes  Machinery  Process Flow  Input  Output  Material Balance  Pollution Control Measures  OH&S

About E-WarDD  Size of the unit: 1500 sq.ft.  Number of employees: 10  Location: Industrial area of Bommanahali  Modern equipment  Installed Capacity – 2 tonnes per day Objectives  To work within the framework of the law to ensure environmentally safe reuse and recycling of e-Waste  Provide opportunities for safe recycling of e-Waste to households and small establishments  Act as a source of inspiration towards other informal sector companies

Roots  Gowri Palya is the heart of e-Waste recycling in Bangalore with more than 50 units located there  Dismantlers and precious metal recovery done in tiny units interspersed between shops and households  10 dismantlers came together to form E-WaRDD

Collaboration  Two years training in testing and upgrading e-waste, and identifying and handling hazardous substances  Outlining of a business plan German Technical Corporation (GTZ) Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA)

Motivation  Realized that there was no future for the informal sector unless we upgrade and work like the formal sector  Wanted to demonstrate to the rest of the sector that it was possible to get official recognition

‘Pasha could be the first person to convert from the informal recycling sector to the formal sector in India, and perhaps in the world, too.’ Times of India, 5 March 2009 recycling unit before formalization, 2006

Milestones 2006  Outlining of a business plan with GTZ  Beginning of the training with GTZ and EMPA 2007  Investment of Rs 8,00,000  Relocation from a residential area to an industrial area  Obtained CFE in April 30 from the KSPCB 2008  Purchase of pollution control equipment and occupational safety and health equipment  Investment of Rs 6,50,000 2009  Obtained CFO in March from the KSPCB valid till 30.06.2010  Application for CPCB authorization

Location Industrial area of Bommanahalli
