Educational agenda in Europe

EUREPA European Epilepsy Academy incorporated as legal association in 1997 Aim of building up a network of coordinated, certified epileptological educational activities throughout Europe for medical doctors and other health care professionals At no point integrated as part of ILAE As a legal independent activity not sustainable Dissolved April 6 th 2010

Virtual epilepsy academy of the ILAE Remains a priority of ILAE educational activities Distance learning courses continue and will be upgraded (www.epilepsy-academy.org)www.epilepsy-academy.org – Neuroimaging – EEG – Pharmacology – Genetics Administrative/coordination support continues through Verena Hézser-v.Wehrs (office@epilepsy-academy.org) ) Task force for Distance Learning formed within Commission for Education for further development – Chair Walter Van Emde de Boas

European Academy of Epilepsy EUREPA continues as educational arm of the ILAE Commission for European Affairs (CEA) Educational courses continue to be supported Applications for support for newly developed courses to be made through forms on the CEA area of the ILAE website (www.ilae-epilepsy.org)www.ilae-epilepsy.org

What does this mean? Further educational activity requires discussion Ad hoc courses – do they fulfil the need? – ?needs assessment Value/meaning of accreditation of courses, certification of epileptology

What do you want? Educational agenda needs to be developed in close collaboration with yourselves To date proposals requested; assessed for funding – Limited response Need to address the geographical and topical needs

Items to consider Are areas well serviced by existing courses? What are the needs of individual areas – how might we determine this? Is there a desire to develop courses within individual geographical or topic areas? What are the areas not yet covered? How do chapters see CEA role in contributing further?

Key questions to address What in existing activities do you feel are useful and should continue? – How & do you feel accreditaiton should continue? What teaching activities do you feel are missing from the educational agenda? Do you think scientific workshops have a role, and in what way should they be developed?
