2 Lines on the Range Waiting line
This is the line you wait behind until it is your turn. NEVER cross this line unless instructed to

3 Lines on the Range Shooting line
This is the line from which you shoot from When instructed to go to the shooting line you must straddle the line with the bow on your toe Once you have shot all of your arrows you return to the waiting line placing the bow where you got it from

4 Lines on the Range Target line
When instructed to retrieve your arrows the archer will walk to this line and wait for the okay to retrieve arrows After retrieving return to the waiting line

5 Whistle Commands One Blast- “Shoot” (return bow and go to waiting line) Two Blasts- “Get Bows” (go to shooting line straddle bow on toe) Three Blasts- “Go get Arrows” (wait at target line) Five or more Blasts- “STOP SHOOTING” (EMERGENCY) return to waiting line

6 Range Rules Know and obey all range commands. (listed below)
Keep your arrows in your quiver until you are told to shoot. Only use the arrows the instructor gave you. Remember what they look like. Always keep your arrows pointed down or towards the target. If you drop an arrow, leave it on the ground. Raise your hand and the instructor will bring you another arrow.

8 Archery Range Procedures
Stand behind the waiting line until 2 blasts - Walk -pick bow up - go to shooting line Bow on toe facing down range Do NOT touch arrows until you hear 1 blast - begin shooting Done shooting - return bow- walk behind waiting line and wait Once everyone is done shooting and has returned completely behind the waiting line 3 blasts will sound - walk to target line - ONE archer/target will pull arrows

9 11 Steps to Archery Success
STANCE- Open foot position NOCK- Nock arrow onto string DRAWING HAND SET- Hook the bow string in the archer’s groove BOW HAND SET- Center the bow’s grip under the lifeline of the relaxed bow hand PRE-DRAW- Raise the bow arm and drawing arm to eye level DRAW- Pull the string to the side of the face

10 11 Steps to Archery Success
7. ANCHOR-index finger at the corner of the mouth 8. AIM- Align the string, riser, arrow rest, and/or arrow point on the target 9. SHOT SET-UP- Begin a slight rearward movement of the drawing shoulder, arm, and elbow. Initiate release anytime during the movement 10. RELEASE- relax the hooked fingers and the back of the drawing hand all at once 11. FOLLOW THROUGH- the drawing hand thumb touches or is near the shoulder.

11 Terms to Know Let Down- returning from full draw to the undrawn position with control and not releasing the string. Draw- to pull the bow string back. Anchor- consistent placement of the drawing hand to a position on the face, mouth, or jaw. End- a set number of arrows that are shot before going to the target to score and retrieve them. Follow through- maintaining the motion of the upper body muscles after releasing the string.

12 Eye Dominance Both eyes open Extend right or left index finger
Point at a small object When the dominant eye is winked the object will appear to move It is recommended to shoot with both eyes open
