FEMA FEMA Corps – Four teams had members trained in Mass Care to include a tour and service project with a Food Bank (Birmingham ) Internal process review – plans were under way to revisit process for obtaining food beyond congregate feeding Sharing information – Mass Care SME’s were sharing lessons learned with each other to strengthen knowledge base Preparing for the next one – pre Sandy

FEMA Sandy was not ‘catastrophic’ still it stretched FEMA / Federal interagency to full capacity The Vertical Disaster – Disaster operations in high population density area ‘eats staff’ and creates enormous complexity. The Troika of Doom: No electricity, no fuel, key transport routes closed (2 manageable, all 3 creates major challenges ) Overall Macro – observations on Sandy
