The Arts Council values festivals as a means to: develop a vibrant and sustainable arts profile at a local level offer opportunities to present new work and new ways of working that can have far reaching effects for artists and audiences

MDA recurring funding ◦ 3.5 – 2.8 million since 2008 ◦ Reduced numbers to 8 - Galway, Kilkenny, Cork Midsummer, Dublin Fringe, Earagail, Eigse, Carlow, Clonmel Junction and Clifden Festivals & Events Scheme (ex SFS) ◦ 850k approx ◦ Supported 158 Festivals and events in 2012 ◦ Three strands (>9,999; 10 – 20k; up to 40k ◦ Two rounds

FES is keen to support festivals where the infrastructure is underdeveloped It aims to support programmes that include: ◦ professional artists ◦ new experiences for audiences ◦ new or niche areas of programming e.g. New media, Jazz etc.
