6-1 Solving Inequalities by Addition and Subtraction Objective: Students will be able to solve linear inequalities by using addition and subtraction

We solve linear inequalities using the same process that we use to solve linear equations. We will still isolate all variable terms on one side of the inequality symbol and all constant terms on the other side. Then we will get the coefficient on the variable to be a 1. Once we attain the solution to a linear inequality, follow these steps to graph: – 1) Rearrange the inequality so that the variable is on the left of the inequality symbol and the constant is on the right (if not already done). – 2) Create a number line that contains two numbers: 0 and the constant value from the solution. – 3) Put a circle on the constant value from the solution – 4) Shade the number line according to which way the arrow is pointing after step 1.
