Labor Union - Definition an organization of workers formed to protect the rights and interests of its members.

Worker Exploitation Workers of the 19 th and early 20 th century experienced long hours, low pay, hazardous working conditions, and no benefits. Wages were so low that children had to work as well. 20 percent of boys and 15 percent of girls under 15 years of age held full time jobs.

Labor Unions Emerge Laborers thought they deserved fair wages and decent working conditions. Laborers joined together to improve the situation.

Collective Bargaining Collective bargaining is the tool that unions use to put pressure on companies. Collective bargaining is when the workers negotiate with the bosses of a company collectively, or as a group.
