OUTPUT DEVICES Created by: Demi-Rochelle Russell and Shantell Williams Course: Instructional Technology
2
What are Output Devices? An output device is any device used to send data from a computer to another device or user.
3
Cont’d Most computer data output that is meant for humans is in the form of audio or video. Thus, most output devices used by humans are in these categories. Some examples include monitors, projectors, speakers, headphones and printers.
4
Types of Output Some types of output are text, graphics, tact ile, audio, and video.
5
Text Text consist of characters (letters, numbers, punctuation marks, or any other symbol requiring one byte of computer storage space) that are used to create words, sentences, and paragraphs.
6
Graphics Graphics are digital representations of non-text information such as drawings, charts, photographs, and animation (a series of still images in rapid sequence that gives the illusion of motion).
7
Tactile Tactile output such as raised line drawings may be useful for some individuals who are blind.
8
Audio Audio is music, speech, or any other sound. Speech output systems can be used to read screen text to computer users. Special software programs called screen readers attempt to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen and speech synthesizers convert data to vocalized sounds or text.
9
Video Video consists of images played back at speeds to provide the appearance of full motion.
10
Types of output devices
11
Printers Produce a hard copy of information output. They include impact printers (such as dot matrix printers) and nonimpact printers (laser, inkjet, and thermal transfer printers) mobile, label and postage, plotters.
12
Audio Output Voice output devices convert digital output data back into intelligible speech. Speakers connected to the computer can deliver other audio output, such as music.
13
Projector An optical instrument that projects an enlarged image onto a screen.
14
Monitor A device that displays text and graphics generated by a computer. Desktop monitors are usually cathode-ray tubes, and laptop monitors are usually liquid crystal display. A monitor can be monochrome (black and white) or color.
15
Cont’d The resolution of a monitor is expressed in dot pitch. The lower the number, the closer the dots are together, which means a finer "grain" picture. Monitors also come in various screen sizes, and like a television, are measured diagonally.
16
Can you tell us what are output devices?
