Region-area with one or more common features that make it different from surrounding areas. –physical features - climate, river systems, soils, vegetation –human features - languages, religions and trade networks –Sometimes regions are defined, sometimes vague Regions of focus 1) Formal- Has one or more features in common Ex: Mountain region in the Northwest 2) Functional- These places are linked together and work as a unit. Ex: cities connect the people of the suburbs and country with industry. 3) Perceptual- How we view the world around us EX; North Country, “My Home”, Dixie
