Great Dark Spot Neptune has several large, dark spots similar to Jupiter's Great Red Spot. The largest spot is named the Great Dark Spot and is about the size of the earth. Neptune is one of the coldest planets because of it’s distance from the sun. 4. Only the spacecraft Voyager 2 has ever visited Neptune – it flew by the planet in August 25, 1989.
