Erasmus+ Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices Strategic Partnerships for school education 01.Sep.2014 - 31.Aug.2016 “BEST Applications in Teaching Mother Tongue” www.erasmusplusbest.com
2
There are common and different types of methodology used around Europe and every school in every country has different school environment and curriculum, mostly. Most of the teachers in Europe know what they should do or what should be done but there are lots of factors preventing the use of planned or neccessary teaching and learning applications. So, after long discussions we have agreed on that, for the Best teaching and learning process on mother tongue, it should be as stated below in categories. TEACHING MOTHER TONGUE IN PARTNERS’ COUNTRIES
3
SCHOOL/ CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT Schools should be provided with necessary libraries and other facilities to perform what students learn. Schools should have larger desks (especially in order to let group work or project work) Classrooms should be less crowded Classrooms should be designed according to the subject and the age of the students Classrooms should let students use interactive tools and new technologies Classrooms should provide teachers with all technological and other types of materials as ready
4
Curricula The curriculum should focus on students’ practical experiences Teachers should be free to determine their curricula relating to the capacity of their students (in accordance to the National Guidelines) Cross curricula approach should be used in schools Students shouldn’t be forced to read some texts that they are not interested in, they must be taught to love reading Texts for study should be adapted to their age and preferences; Students should be directed according to their abilities and interests at an early age and curricula should be designed according to it
5
Teaching and learning materials Books Interactive board Exercise book Computer Internet resources Posters and images Grids, schema and frameworks prepared by the teachers CDs and audio-video materials
6
METHODOLOGY USED IN CLASSES Teachers must adapt their classes to students’ necessities and must combine harmoniously the traditional methods with the active-participative. Also, extracurricular activities are very important in the literary evolution of a child. Learning must occur after leaving the classroom, during the student's leisure time. The teacher must know how to challenge the student’s desire for knowledge, study. Ideally, formal education in school should combine with the non-formal (that begins to spread) and the informal.
7
METHODS USED IN CLASSES 1. TRADITIONAL METHODS rely solely on the transmission of knowledge by the teacher, and the perception and imitation by the pupil. ex. lecture, description, explanation, story, work with manual etc. 2. ACTIVE AND PARTICIPATIVE imply all situations in which students are solicited and are removed from the object depiction training and are transformed into active subjects, co-participants in their own development. ex. cube, brainstorming, horoscope, jigsaw, literary process, snowball, starburst, fishbowl etc.
8
EXTRACURRICULAR LEARNING Trips to literature museums, external places.... Meeting with experts of the subject, writers, critics See the plays that they study Act in the plays that they study Participation at the reading club of the school Publish poems and prose in the school’s magazine Participation at different literature contest

EVALUATION AND FEEDBACK Three types of evaluation can be used: 1.diagnostic assessment: given at the beginning of the year; 2.formative assessment: given throughout the learning process to determine how students are progressing; 3.summative assessment: given at the end of a learning unit Evaluation of teaching can have many purposes, including collecting feedback for teaching improvement and developing a portfolio for job applications.
10
EVALUATION AND FEEDBACK - The teacher must conduct the evaluation without this constitute a source of stress for students - Evaluation should be the result of a long work (as is the portfolio) for the teacher to be able to form a general opinion on the subject taught - modern methods of evaluation should be used, emphasizing on teamwork - the focus should be higher on communication and students be aware of the importance of developing this key competence (communication in the mother tongue)
