When Should You Consider Migration?
As your SLC equipment ages, it’s inevitable that questions about part sourcing, service, gains from new technology, and increased risk of downtime become stronger. The ultimate migration approach depends on your specific system and application requirements SLC is a 23 year old platform and currently in a declining phase as customers move to newer technologies. Rockwell Automation will work with you to outline a plan that fits your application needs and long term goals.
4
Advantages of Migration
Performance enhancements in next generation Rockwell Automation Logix platforms: Increased throughput Less downtime Integrated Safety & Motion Improved Productivity Reduce maintenance cost Reduce risk of product obsolescence Lower Operational Cost Regulatory Compliance
5
Typical Migration Path
Migration Process Mapping Existing Control System Convert Program Logic RSLogix™ 500 to RSLogix 5000 Replace Controller SLC to Logix Replace I/O, HMI etc SLC to Logix Typical Migration Path Conduct Installed Base Evaluation Use Integrated Architecture Builder (IAB) tool Use Code Conversion Utility which is integrated in RSLogix 5000 Use 1747-AENTR Ethernet adaptor to retain SLC I/O Replace SLC I/O Replace HMI, network and other legacy products. CMX Popular Configuration Drawings The Rockwell Automation migration guide has step-by-step instructions on the SLC to Logix migration solution.
6
Integrated Architecture Builder (IAB)
Includes a migration wizard specifically created for SLC to Logix migrations Minimize cost and risk to convert SLC systems to Logix systems Converts SLC Bill of Material to a Logix Bill of Material Automatically selects system components, power supplies, etc. Convert system in 30 minutes or less with minimal training Helps you determine any critical application considerations
7
Code Conversion Utility
Converts a RSLogix™ 500 import/export file (SLC extension) into a complete import/export file (.L5K file extension) Integrated in RS5k software Reduces the amount of work involved in converting application code Additional work such as I/O Mapping needs to be done to make the converted file work.
8
Rockwell Automation Conversion Services
Rockwell Automation can provide you with technical, industry and project management expertise for a complete migration solution. Sample conversion services include: On-site Assessment Application conversion engineering services Start-Up and Acceptance
