Accurate Referencing Why reference? What is a reference? A reference - also known as a citation - is an exact note of the source of a piece of information. A typical reference or citation for a journal article, for example, would include the following elements: author(s) name(s) title of the article journal title year, volume or part when published page numbers Use referencing software e.g. Endnote or Zotero

Avoiding plagiarism What is plagiarism? How to avoid plagiarism: reference correctly! Author’s Surname, INITIALS., Year of publication. Title. Edition (if not the first). Place of publication: Publisher. e.g. McMillan, K. and Weyers, J., 1993. How to write essays and assignments. Harlow: Pearson Education Limited
