5. Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP)
Provides cadets 150 hours of “Hands-On” clinical nursing in a 1:1 preceptorship at an Army medical center
Assigned to 24-hr nursing services:
Medical
Surgical
Critical Care
Emergency
Maternal Child
Some schools award academic credit for NSTP attendance
Assignments are based on Cadet’s performance (GPA, APFT), preference, and availability of preceptors

9 weeks
3 Phases:
Didactic Training (4 weeks)
Basic military skills
AMEDD functions
Officership
Field Training (3 weeks)
AOC Specific Training (Nursing—2 weeks)

9. Clinical Nurse Transition Program (CNTP)
6 month transition from university to practice
Must complete a minimum of 936 clinical hours of precepted direct patient care
Must participate in 6 seminars
After CNTP (based on RN abilities) ACLS, PALS, TNCC, Charge Nurse Preceptor
Work Schedule follows Preceptor’s
Most MTF’s utilize 12 hr shifts, 84 hours/2 weeks
Most rotate between day and night shift
