Greg is criticized by Jack Brynes for his career choice due to his belief that Nursing is unmanly Common stereotype: Greg failed in school, and he had to accept the secondary choice of being a nurse rather than a doctor.

Hung Hsin has had many positive experiences, but “...there have been jokes thrown around about [him] being a nurse and the movie Meet the Parents didn’t help” (Santiago). Mark Andaya believes that “... [he] has became more sympathetic to those who overcome stereotypes of any kind” (Santiago).
