Collect Stamp Calendars on the back counter

TODAY’S AGENDA: Warm up (15) Finish Organelle Story (15) Cell Comparison foldable(20) 24September M Today’ objectives: 1.Develop a foldable for standards 1c to go in our knowledge binders Finish KB page if not done ESLRs Addressed: 1. Achieve Academic proficiency 2. Communicate Effectively 3. Demonstrate Civility

Warm Up What is the organelle pathway that is taken to make a protein? (it’s on your blue organelle story) 1.N__________ 2.R___________ 3. R___________ 4. G____________ 5. V____________

Organelle Story Pull out your blue paper that we used to learn that pathway to making a protein. We are going to finish filling it in!!

ATP First food must be brought into the cell. It can get in a variety of ways. In the case of today’s cell, lets say it can pass through the cell membrane with the help of a carrier protein. This sometimes requires energy. Once the food is in the cell, it is placed inside a food vacuole for storage.

The food in the vacuole is too large to be used for energy by the cell so the vacuole eventually meets up with a lysosome. Lysosomes are like a cell stomach. They contain enzymes that break down the food. Digested food is then released. REVIEW… What molecules do the blue hexagons represent?

38 ATP 6 X adp Glucose molecules find their way to the mighty mitochondria The mitochondria combines the glucose, oxygen and adp to make energy in the form of ATP and waste carbon dioxide

The ATP made by the mitchondria goes where it is needed in the cell, and the waste diffuses out of the cell through the cell membrane.

Standard 1 C – KB assignment 1.Fold a large sheet of construction paper in half like a book. 2.Open the book & glue your cell comparison picture on one side of the paper and your organelle key on the other side. (Staple them if you wrote on the back of the paper) 3.Close the “book”. On the front cover title the book write “STANDARD 1 C – Students know how prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells (including those of plants & animals and viruses differ in complexity and general structure. 4.Below the this glue your Venn diagram & question answers. 5.You have 15 minutes – get a stamp

Tri-fold your Venn-diagram. On the front answer the following questions in complete sentences 1. Explain the difference between prokaryotic cells & eukarytotic cells; 2. Identify what types of organisms are made of prokaryotic cells & which are made of eukaryotic. 3. Explain why viruses are not cells, but bacteria are. 4. Identify three organelles that are found in plant cells but not in animal cells. Close the “book”. On the front cover title the book write “STANDARD 1 C – Students know how prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells (including those of plants & animals and viruses differ in complexity and general structure.)
