Smart Metering for Smart Grid Partnerships

OMNIA SUITE Overview Most of you have been introduced to this conceptual model before. The news is in the different parts of the model and not the model itself. The model consists of these parts: OMNISOFT is the software components of the solution OMNICON is the communication layers that connects the Smart Meters to the Software OMNIPOWER is our new Smart Meters MULTICAL is our Water and Heat meters

OMNIA SUITE Overview UtiliDriver® Head-end software OMNICON Data Concentrator OMNIPOWER Meters for Electricity UtiliKeeper® Substation Monitoring VisionAir MDM MULTICAL® Meters for Water Meters for heat/cooling Infrastructure for Smart Home We have strived to maximize every part of the OMNIA solution as you will hear throughout our presentations today and I wanted to give you an idea of what has been the key drivers behind the solution. First of all we have strived to provide a supreme performance in the entire value chain from meters to MDM. The Radio Mesh network protocol stack has been improved to support massively larger amounts of data, high speed meter firmware uploads, ”BSI ready” security layers , near real-time event notifications and IPv6 readiness. We have taken a huge step in distributed intelligence by moving much of the data reading engine to the edge of the grid. The concentrators are now fullblown linux engines with their own intelligence for reading meters on a daily basis and performing automatic network maintenance. Through a very productive and fruitful effort between developers, engineering managers and designers we have come up with a truly clever plug ’n play solution for meter installation.

Automatic maintenance
The Network Signals every 15min Automatic maintenance Beacon frames are transmitted every 15 minutes from each device Local lists will be automatically updated No need for manually local list update (saves time and channel occupation) Concentrator can build / re-build routing table quickly (no time spend on updating the network list, saves min 1 min pr meter) Concentrator can easily search for meters in the network Assuming 1000 meters in the Area List, the concentrator can read all lists in app. 6 hours This will occupy the concentrator 3,6 % of the time if lists are read every week The concentrator keeps a powerful memory and stores the complete network picture Webserver for config and management
14
Distributed Intelligence I’m lost !!
If a meter is out of range … it start beaconning. This will be heard by the other meters in the network and evetually find an alternative route to the concentrator …. Mabye even through meters dedicated to another Concentrator. The Concentrator will do the nessecary adjustments to the network in order to reach it. If a meter has been missing for aprox. 2 hours it will be reported (after several retries) … so there will be an early warning for the system.

Conlusion How many revisits do you need?
OPEX How many revisits do you need? How fast is the network established? How robust is the communication to changes? How good is the daily reading performance? Level of maintenance Failure rate of the meters? CAPEX Hardware and installation (meters and data concentrator Software components Total price is not just CAPEX. Consider the cost for maintaining the system
