The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

 Option 1: Good, bad, or Ugly  Okonkwo is an outstanding man to have in a tribe, but he is angry a lot of the time. He is the opposite of a lazy person though.

 Option 2 (Good, bad, or ugly)  As Okonwo has a need for more, he also has a need for violence. Some may argue that Nwoye’s sees his father commiting the sin of sloth by being lazy, although Okonwo does the opposite of this. Wrath is the choice of violence over peace.

 From your TFA “7 sins” essay:  Option 3: (good, bad, or ugly?)  One might imply that Okonkwo violates the sin of sloth when his ambition is broken during exile. However, Okonkwo spends most of his life doing everything possible to become the antithesis of his father whom he considered an unproductive failure. Therefore, this “slothful”assertion is not a true representation of his overall character. In actuality, the desperate need to be the foil of his father leads to one of his true sins: greed.

 Why?  The Counter Argument must be defeated first. If you try to put it in the middle or end of your paragraph, it can be extremely confusing to your reader. Remember, your paragraph should ultimately focus on YOUR argument. Once you are on “your side,” don’t distract the reader by switching teams.

 Find the 3 phrases from this analysis that makes it even stronger.  Through Achebe’s use of of “beat” and “anger,” it is obvious to the reader that Okonkwo is a violent man. He is unafraid of violating the tribal rules that he cherishes as long as he takes his anger out on somebody, even in his own wife. This single action proves he is a man who lets his emotions come before rational decisions, which truly embodies an act of rage. Not even his own family is safe from anger; therefore, wrath is, without question, his ultimate sin.
