First of all… See if you can spot how many pi signs are on this PowerPoint!! Even though pi isn’t edible, it can still be fun to have around. The definition of Pi: Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi is always the same number, no matter which circle you use to compute it. Pi has more than the 3 digits we use in math, and since Pi goes on and on without a pattern, Pi, or 3.14 is irrational. I tried printing out the 1 million numbers mathematicians have discovered so far, but it took 351 pages with a font size of 11. So instead here are a few 100 of them. 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510 58209749445923078164062862089986280348253421170679 82148086513282306647093844609550582231725359408128 48111745028410270193852110555964462294895493038196 44288109756659334461284756482337867831652712019091 45648566923460348610454326648213393607260249141273 72458700660631558817488152092096282925409171536436 78925903600113305305488204665213841469519415116094 07446237996274956735188575272491227938183011949129 83367336244065664308602139494639522473719070217986 09437027705392171762931767523846748184676694051320

Pi (which is the 16 th letter in the Greek alphabet) was discovered by a Greek mathematician named Archimedes. Archimedes wrote a book called The Measurement of a Circle. In the book he states that Pi is a number between 3 10/71 and 3 1/7. He figured this out by taking a polygon with 96 sides and inscribing a circle inside the polygon. That was Archimedes' concept of Pi.

Ways to Memorize Pi Listen to this song over and over. http://www.stevetoner.com/ph/TonerS/mathpi.html http://www.stevetoner.com/ph/TonerS/mathpi.html Start by memorizing it 3 or 4 digits at a time and just repeat those digits over and over to learn them. Repeat this process with the next 3 or 4 digits, and go on until you have as many as you want memorized. Realize you’ll never memorize Pi and move onto something important like texting 10,000 words per minute.

Why Does Matter? Pi is an extremely useful number when talking about geometry. Without it you would not be able to find the circumference, diameter, area, or radius very easily.

How Math People Can Celebrate Pi You can wear a pi t-shirt, pi jewelry (maybe a necklace whose beads represent the numbers in pi), a pi mug or clock. make your computer wallpaper into something related to pi. change your ringtone either to actual "pi music" or to a song that reminds you of the famous irrational number. Get married on Pi Day, there's nothing more romantic than being married to the one you love at 1:59:26 PM on March 14th, to show that, like Pi, your love will continue forever... Watch the movie π. Simply use 3.14 as a unit of measure. Instead of being 31 years old, you are 9pi years old. You can do so many things on Pi day!!

Things You NEED to do on Pi Day ☺Paint a digit of pie on each nail ☺Buy a warm apple pie…. ☺Find out if the post office in Savanna George know the significance of their zip code ☺Microwave some popcorn for about 3 min. and 14 seconds (it may be a little burnt.) ☺Memorize it! The current world record for pi memorization was made in 1995, when a Japanese man recited 42,000 digits from memory in just over nine hours. Beat that!!

Q. What do you get of you divide the circumference of a jack-o-lantern A. Pumpkin Pi! Statement: pi * r^2 Reaction: Pie are not square. Pie are round. Cornbread are square. How many mathematicians does it take to screw in a light bulb? Pi
