 Your are a 4 th grade teacher about to teach about voting. You hear that there is a wonderful children’s educational program about voting on HBO. You decide you want to record the program and show it to your students in class to introduce them to the voting unit. Is this a good idea? Explain.

 No, recording and showing programs from HBO is not a good idea. With FairUse, we can only record programs broadcasted to the general public. HBO programs are cable television programs that are not broadcasted to the general public.

 You recorded a program about migration from GPB a year ago. The program was broadcasted to the general public. You are about to begin the migration unit again with new students and want to show the recorded program. Is this a good idea? Explain.

 No, playing the recorded program a year after recording is against Copyright laws and FairUse. FairUse allows teachers to record programs and play them for only 10 consecutive school days after being recorded. A year has gone by since the program was recorded. It should be destroyed completely.

 You recorded a program on friction from PBS to educate your class. Other classes are learning about friction the same time as your class. You thought it would be helpful to allow other teachers to play your recording the same week. Is this a good idea? Explain.

 Yes, sharing the recording with other teachers is fine as long as the recording is not older than 10 consecutive school days.

 Television programs have copyright laws.  If you wish to record a general public broadcasted program, then follow the guidelines for FairUse of recording these programs.
