2 International Women's DayInternational Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. International Women's Day celebrates women's successes, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed.

4 Lois Latham – regional geographer  One of 3 sisters from Wakefield  Graduated in geography from Sheffield University c1932  Editor of Scottish Geographical Magazine, 1936-39  Department of Geography, University of Hull, 1946-1977  1 st woman appointed to Department’s permanent academic staff, 1946  Only woman permanent academic in Department until 1988!

5 Jacqui Burgess Professor emerita  Undergraduate in Geography, University of Hull  PhD in Geography 1975, University of Hull  First woman professor of geography at University College London, 1998  Head of School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, 2006  Influential in cultural geography, environmental geography and policy

6 Judith Rees (DBE, OBE) Professor  1 st woman Geography professor at University of Hull, 1989  First woman Head of Department of Geography, University of Hull, 1991-3  Pro Vice Chancellor, University of Hull  Head of Geography and Deputy Director LSE 1994- 2004  First woman President of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), 2012  A long university career in geography teaching and research, specialising in resource & environmental policy &climate change
