Founded by J. Willard Marriott in 1927 He and his wife opened a root beer in Washington D.C. As humid summers in Washington D.C, Marriott was convinced that what the city needed was a such a place to get a cool drink. They later expanded their enterprises into a chain of restaurants and hotels The Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, Virginia is Marriott International’s longest operating hotel. Their son is current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, J.W. (Bill) Marriott, he has led the company to spectacular worldwide growth. Today, Marriott International has about 3,400 lodging properties located in the United States and 67 other countries and territories.

Worst day of Marriot Suicide attack occurred on 20th September 2008 A dump truck filled with explosives detonated in front of the Marriott Hotel At least 54 were killed, injuring at least 266 and leaving a 60 ft. (20 m) wide, 20 ft. (6 m) deep crater outside the hotel. The majority of the casualties were Pakistanis, although at least five foreign nationals were killed and fifteen others reported injured. 27

ADVERTISEMENT The Sales department of Islamabad Marriott Hotel is responsible to carry out an effective advertisement. For this purpose they allocate a separate budget. The methods through which the advertisement campaign is carried out are: 1.Transmitted Media The Islamabad Marriott Hotel by utilizing the modern technology of transmitted media, advertises about the exclusive services they offer. This is considered as the most effective method of advertisement since it is accessible to all their targeted clients’ i.e. Government, Diplomats, and Commercial sector.

News Letter The news about the on going activities in the Hotel is sent to the guests and the clients. 4. Print Media Promotion is also carried out through the print media and different Magazines and news papers are used for this purpose. Staff: The total staff of Marriott Islamabad consists of around 450 employees out of which around 70 are the officers.

Organization In Marriot Hotel a continuous line of command is followed starting from top management to the entry level. There is very explicit chain known to every employee. Since they follow a chain of command, every employee reports to manager. The decision making is mostly concentrated at the top management level. 38

Standardize the quality of accommodation and hoteling at all branches. Due to current economic and political slump in the country all the service industries are facing the problem of acquiring the requisite financial resources to carry on their developmental projects.
