1 The Holocaust By Katelyn Ann Montag

2 What Was The Holocaust? What Was The Holocaust~ When did it begin? The Holocaust was mostly because of a man named Hitler. Hitler hated the Jews. Hitler was a German. A perfect German had blond hair and blue eyes. The Holocaust began in 1933 when Hitler came in power to Germany. It ended in when the Nazis were defeated.

3 What does Holocaust Mean?
Where it comes from/what it means The Holocaust comes from a Greek word. The word is “holokauston”. It means “Sacrifice By Fire”. It refers to the Nazi's persecution and plan get rid of the Jewish people.

4 A Picture from the Holocaust!
Look to the right for more info. Why are they putting their hands like that? They are putting their hands up because they are Jews.

5 The Entrance gate to Auschwitz
Auschwitz was a concentration camp. Many people died there. It was the biggest camp. The sign above the main entrance means “Work Brings Freedom”. It was meant to calm the Jews.

6 The Reason That I choose the Holocaust!
The Reason that I choose the Holocaust is because I really like history, and the Holocaust is an important part of our history. I have a book about the Holocaust, and I wanted to learn more about it!

7 Concentration Camps The concentration camps were a really bad thing. The Jews were forced to work, live in tight spaces, starved, and put in gas chambers. The gas chambers were a great fear of all Jews. Mostly everyone was put in one unless they were useful to the Nazis. They put people in gas chambers because they were receiving more Jews every day, and they needed to get rid of some. After they had you for a while, that’s usually where you went. At the concentration Camp you didn’t have a name, you were a number. They tattooed a number on your arm, and that is who you were!

8 How else were Jews killed?
The Jews could be killed in a couple ways. Not all of them died, though. Some lived! Most of them died. They were not all killed in gas chambers, though. Some were murdered. If they disobeyed a Nazis soldier, then they could have murdered on the spot. The Jews were forced to obey the soldiers. They carried guns and didn’t seem to be afraid to kill anyone.

9 Gas Chambers What was a gas chamber? A gas chamber was when they put Jews inside and they killed them with gas. They made the Jews take off all clothing. In the Holocaust Museum in D.C. you can see all their shoes. They put their shoes in a tube. The reason that they put the Jews in them is because they got too many Jews and they wanted to get rid of some. This is how they did this.

10 Holocaust museum in D.C. The Holocaust museum in Washington D.C is a great place to visit. It is a living memorial. One of the many lessons it teaches is the fragility of Freedom. This is the outside of the Museum
