Literary Analysis The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

2 Huck’s Culture and Morals
Respond in your notebook… Why would Huck be more able than someone like Tom to determine his own set of morals and values that may be separate from those determined by his society and culture? Why is it necessary that Twain develop the friendship between Huck and Jim while they are alone on the river?

3 The River as a Symbol In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the river serves as a symbol of protection on which Huck and Jim retreat from society and develop a friendship free from the harshness of society. To support this statement, you will find textual evidence from the novel that shows a comparison between Huck and Jim’s time alone on the river to their time either with other people (society) or on land. You will find three quotes that describe some aspect of their time alone on the river and three quotes that describe some aspect of the time they are on land or amongst society. For each quote you find, you will explain thoroughly how it supports the statement above.
