3 What where schools like in the past?  Schools in the past were big and used to have roof tiles. The classes were huge because there were many students in the same class.  In remote areas, students of all ages were taught in the same class.

6 C L A S S E S  The desks were made of wood. The seats and desks were attached to each other. In many places, there were too many students in the class. More than three students sat on one desk.  There was a blackboard in the class and teachers wrote in white chalk. The blackboard hung on the wall or rested on three wooden legs.

10 T H E T E A C H E R “the rod” pedestal  The teacher was strict. They used “the rod” to punish students who did bad things or did not do their homework. The teacher, sat on the chair during the lesson which was placed on a wooden pedestal. pedestal  The pedestal was used so that the teacher was on a higher level and he/she could see all students.
