NVQs are: National Vocational Qualifications Developed by industry Designed to recognise a candidate's competence in the workplace. Widely recognised by employers Accredited by OCR, Edexcel, C&G

Main features Portfolio based Assessment based Each language skill or ‘unit’ assessed i.e. –Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening Levels 1 – 4 in Languages available –schools mainly 1 & 2

What is an NVQ worth? QCA approved qualification Value of units for performance tables: –Level 1 = 7 points per skill (unit) –Level 2 = 12.3 points per skill (unit)

What do the units add up to? Level 1: 4 units x 7 points = 28 Level 2: 4 units x 12 points = 49.2 or: Level 1 writing 1 x 7 points + Level 2 speaking, reading, listening + 3 x 12.3 points Total= 43.9
