Instructions for Game & Template Use Start the game by asking all teams the question in the first square on the board. The team that rings their bell first, answers the question. If they answer correctly, they receive the appropriate money award and choose the next question square. You can subtract the award money for wrong answers if you so choose, or you can eliminate this component and only give money for correct answers, thus eliminating any penalty. Make sure all participants know to state their answer in Jeopardy format beginning with “What is....” If they forget to do so, they cannot receive credit for their answer and the award can be subtracted from their total. Click on the top headings to advance to Final Jeopardy. Participants can wager all or part of their winnings during final Jeopardy, and thus loose it if their answer is wrong or earn it if their answer is correct. When clicking on the slide to move to the next appropriate slide, be sure you see the hand icon, and not the arrow. (If you put your cursor over a text box, it will be an arrow and WILL NOT take you to the right location.)

Choose a category. You will be given the answer. You must give the correct question. Click to begin.

Measurement term used to describe the area of the Earth’s surface needed to support a given lifestyle

Ecological Footprint (Country with the largest ecological footprint per person is the United States.)

Many scientists believe that this element can someday provide an unlimited supply of clean energy.

hydrogen

Percent of the Earth’s water available for people to use

Less Than 1%

City in the world with the largest population

Toyko with 33.2 million

The Earth’s coldest location

Antarctica ( -89C/-129F at Vostok on July 21, 1983)

The warmest year on record according to NASA

2005 (followed closely by 1998)

The hottest temperature in North America was recorded in this U.S. town.

A Mathematical Weather Model

Names given to tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean in 2005 after the list of specified names had been exhausted.

Letters of the Greek alphabet Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta

Dendrochronology

A period of long-term downturn in the temperature of Earth's climate, resulting in an expansion of ice sheets and mountain glaciers.

Ice age

A cylinder that holds snow and ice accumulated over many years. Air trapped in the snow and ice gives scientists clues to past climate on Earth.

Ice core

The most prominent known source of inter-annual variability in weather and climate that occurs every 3-8 years and is marked by unusually warm ocean temperatures in the Pacific near Peru.

El Nino or ENSO (El Nino Southern Osillation)

This climate change documentary received an Academy Award nomination in 2007 and is also available in book form.

An Inconvenient Truth

A term used to describe gases in the air that are raising Earth’s average temperature by trapping and absorbing long wave radiation leaving Earth.

Greenhouse Effect

This treaty began in 2005 and was the first international attempt at reducing greenhouse gas emissions but did not include the U.S.

Kyoto Protocol

This UN-organized international panel of climate experts meets and publishes a report every 5-7 years on the risk of human- induced climate change based on the scientific evidence that exists.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

This famous graph shows the increase of heat-trapping carbon dioxide gas in Earth’s atmosphere since 1958.

The Keeling Curve

Make your wager
