3 Dislocated Worker WorkforceInvestmentAct(WIA)The is a federally funded employment and training program that assists customers with developing workforce opportunities, accessing training and helping them manage their career choices. 6 WIA Enrollment Case Management Services Review Receipt of Information/Service Agreement Form Maintain monthly contact with your Workforce Specialist Individual Assessments 6 I NTENSIVE S ERVICES

7 Types of WIA Training Include: Gain new employment Retain their current employment; or To qualify for training services an individual must be determined as needing training to do the following: 7 T RAINING S ERVICES

8 The trainee can get a feel for the company environment. O N - THE -J OB T RAINING The OJT program was designed to stimulate the economy and develop skilled workers for employers. The WIA reimburses employers up to 75% of a trainee’s wages during the period of time needed to proficiently train them for the job. The Advantages of the OJT Program are: 8 Better trained employees; and The employer makes the training decisions; Training is tailored to what the company is looking for;

9 The Approved Clusters are: Training Clusters are occupations that are grouped together into a category (cluster) and approved by the Trident Workforce Investment Board for training. 9 T RAINING C LUSTERS Manufacturing Transportation & Logistics Information Technology Services Specialty Trade Contractors Biomedical and Medical

10 Participants are REQUIRED to stay in touch with follow-up staff for a full 12 months 10 Other Services Supportive Services Supportive Services are available provided the participant meets the requirements set by the local Workforce Development Administration, the service provider and the case manager. Supportive Services are based on emergency situations and are not a guarantee. Follow-UpServices:Follow-UpServices: Follow-up services are provided to WIA participants for 12 months by WIA staff members. During this time the WIA staff will: Track your Employment Success; and Assist with job placement and job referrals as needed. REQUIRED

11 11WorkKeys The assessments are based on testing scores for three areas: Communication: Business Writing, Listening, Reading for Information and Writing Problem Solving: Applied Mathematics, Applied Technology, Locating Information, Observation Interpersonal Skills: Teamwork Based on the score for the assessments there are three certificate levels (these are recognized in more than 40 states): Bronze Silver Gold WorkKeys ® helps take the guesswork out of hiring. It is a proven method of assessing a job seekers skill level and to see which employees have the most potential for success.

12 12 Palmetto Youth ConnectionsPalmetto Youth Connections “Preparing Today's Youth for Tomorrow’s Jobs” Palmetto Youth Connections: A community partnership that is focused on helping youths ages 17 – 21 who are finished with school and looking for employment throughout South Carolina. Our Focus: To develop community wide partnerships and collaborations with state agencies and community based organizations as well as local School Districts and Adult Education programs in order to better serve the youths in our communities and help them find steady and self-sufficient employment.
