How a Switch Works Have you thought about a robotic arm or an attachment that moves? Let’s talk about hydraulics ! Just the BASICS!
2
How a Switch Works So what is it? Force that is applied at one point is transmitted to another point using an incompressible fluid.
3
How a Switch Works When the term “fluid power” comes up you often hear about pneumatics Both hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems use fluid to distribute power where you need it. *Hydraulics use liquid as the fluid. *Pneumatics use gas as the fluid. Today, we focus on hydraulics!
4
How a Switch Works There can be safety issues involved, especially when you’re talking about liquids under pressure. Make sure that you’re always being safe, protecting yourself (safety goggles, etc.) if you choose to work with hydraulics. * If you participate in the MATE competition, there is a fluid power quiz you must take/pass

How a Switch Works Add a little movement to that attachment + +

How a Switch Works Don’t be intimidated, but check out what you can do with just airline tubing, syringes and water! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k7gNRMvS-g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kfhki3RkJv0

How a Switch Works Let’s experiment! Goal: attempt to make a hydraulic “gripper” with basic tools, syringes, airline tubing, and water. While also having fun.
