Actions for Property Owners when there is a Red Flag Warning Prepare the property for potential wildfire o Put away all yard cushions & covers that embers can land on. o Disconnect & safely store BBQ propane bottles in your garage. o Clear leaf debris from “nooks and crannies” and gutters. o Remove wood chips and leaf debris away from the foundation o Close any areas that embers may make get in. o Look for other ember catchers- like potted plants and “wicks” to the structures like landscaping timbers. o Check “Zone 1”- the first 30 feet out from the foundation of your home- for increased risks like wood piles, trampolines, etc. o Position hoses near spigots, but do not attach. This will make it easy for firefighters to have quick access to water. Put out a metal ladder for firefighters too.

http://www.ppwpp.org Ready, Set, GO! Increase your awareness (Get READY) o Fire danger is in the High to Extreme range. o Light fuels (grasses, pine needles) become dry very quickly. o Sometimes your Warning may come when there is little time. o In the event of wildfire there is a greater chance extreme fire behavior will occur. o Monitor news & weather reports for updates and notifications. o If the next day will be a Red Flag day, pack important papers into your vehicle before you leave for work- just keep them in your car at work with you! o Make preparations with a neighbor or friend to care for your animals in a different location or evacuate them out IF you can’t! Don’t think your animals are just going to fend for themselves- they Don’t do well!
