1 Career Management Center The Career Management Advisors are job search tactical specialists with general knowledge of all industries that typically hire MBAs. Advisors serve as resources throughout students’ time at Columbia Business School, and help students: Assess the feasibility of their desire to enter industries/functions, Develop a plan to effectively manage their career goals Build and refine job search tools including Identify industry-specific people and resources that can positively impact progress toward their goals Advisors

2 2 Michael Malone, Director, Career Education & Advising ● Professional function - Advise students on topics including self-assessment, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, job offers and compensation negotiation, business communication. Advise on work/life blend, networking and network development/management, out-of-market job search tactics. ● CBS Club liaison affiliations - BBSA, CIMA, Energy, GMA, Green Business Club, MCA, MIBA, Sports Business Association ● Experience - Over 16 years leading teams and advising students at diverse institutions including Columbia University, UC Berkeley, American University, University of Pennsylvania, Stevens Institute of Technology & Brookdale Community College. Spent over 3 years with IBM as Marketplace Analyst. ● Education - M.S. Ed., University of Pennsylvania; BA, Fordham University ● Interests and activities – Moderator, Forté Foundation panels on Investment Banking and Investment Management (2008-09); Alumni Board of Directors member, Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania (2009-10), Regis High School Alumni Association member/guest speaker ● Awards – Robert W. Lear award, commitment to students, Columbia Business School (2008); Outstanding Service to Student Athletes, Columbia Wrestling, Columbia University (2002); Outstanding Advisor, Residence Hall Association, UC Berkeley (2000)

3 3 Thomas Monaco, Director, International Student Advising and Corporate Outreach Tom counsels international students on issues related to career development and works with international corporations to help them develop effective MBA-focused recruitment strategies. He is the primary CMC liaison to the PEVC Club, the International Student Advisory Board (ISAB), and the international student clubs. Prior to joining Columbia Business School in 1996 Tom worked in accounting and financial services at Ernst & Young and at Bear Stearns Mortgage Capital Corporation. In 2006 he went abroad to work in international development in East Africa as a microfinance volunteer and then as Tanzania Country Manager for MondoChallenge, a UK-based NGO. He lived and worked in Prague, Czech Republic teaching ESL to corporate clients in 2007 before returning to New York to become the Director of Career Services at Fordham’s Graduate School of Business. He was also an Adjunct Professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business before returning to Columbia Business School in September, 2008. Tom holds a BS in Accounting from Villanova University and an MS in Higher Education Administration from The Ohio State University.

4 4 Laurie Boockvar, Associate Director, Career Education & Advising Laurie has worked in the Career Management Center at CBS for the past 12 years. As a member of the CEA team, she specializes in the core job search skills such as self-assessment, networking, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation and managing the job search process. In addition, Laurie is a liaison to the Columbia Finance Association and Real Estate Association. Prior to joining Columbia Business School, Laurie spent 4 years in a career development capacity in both academia and industry and served as an adjunct instructor at NYU’s Center for Career, Education and Life Planning and in the Adult Degree Studies Division. Laurie has an MA in Counseling from NYU and a BA in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.

5 5 Loren Margolis, Associate Director, Career Education & Advising Loren counsels MBA students on all phases of their job search and issues related to career development. Loren founded and manages the second year Career Fellows, a group of 30 student leaders trained to mentor class-mates on their job search. She also oversees the first year Career Representative program which includes heading up a monthly roundtable. She is the primary CMC liaison to MAC, CWIB, and the IDC. Prior to joining Columbia Business School in 2002, Loren was an executive recruiter partnering with global Consumer Packaged Goods companies to successfully fill Brand Management and New Product Development roles and sourced talent for top-tier Management Consulting firms. Loren also worked as a Recruiter at Time Inc., covering the Consumer Marketing, Partnership Marketing, Consumer Research, and Business Development areas. Loren graduated with honors in psychology from Hartwick College, holds an MSW from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and received advanced training in Adult Career Planning from NYU.

6 6 Pamela Welling, Assistant Director, Career Education & Advising Pamela counsels domestic and international students on all aspects of career management with a focus on self-assessment, strategic planning and the international job search. She is a primary liaison for Columbia Women In Business (CWIB) and the Real Estate Association. Pamela brings nine years of education venture experience to CBS having managed a number of start-up and turnaround projects at The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and Johnson & Wales University. She has an extensive knowledge of student support and counseling in Higher Education and her work has been recognized at the national level in the UK and US. Pamela also has HR experience and managed a diversity mentoring program for academics, administrative staff and students for three universities in the UK. Pamela has worked in the UK, US and Australia, holds a BSc in Geography from the University of Manchester and an MA in Strategic Human Resources Management from Manchester Metropolitan University.

7 7 Alana Waisbrot, Assistant Director, Career Education & Advising Alana advises first and second year MBAs on a full range of career management strategies and skills. She is a CMC liaison to the Columbia Finance Association, CIMA, CWIB, IBC, REA and Sales & Trading Clubs. Before joining Columbia, Alana was an Industry Relationship Manager in the Career Management Center at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management. In this position, she managed the school's recruiting relationships with financial services, real estate and non-profit firms and oversaw the on-campus recruiting program in these areas. Prior to her work in higher education, Alana was a Campus Recruiter for the Capital Markets Analyst program at Lehman Brothers and a Human Resources Representative for Citigroup's Global Banking Division. Alana holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and is currently completing her Ed.M. in Psychological Counseling at Columbia’s Teachers College.
