What do you want to accomplish?

 You set a goal whenever you say, "I want to..." Your goal might be that you want to get a pet dog, that you want to learn to dance, or to play football well. At school, your goal might be to get better grades at school.

 When you have a goal, it makes you feel full of energy.  Having a goal makes you feel good about yourself.  It makes life much more FUN!!!

 It's always good to have a goal, but there are ways to make goal-setting most effective. effective: producing a result that is wanted; having an intended effect

 S pecific  M easurable  A ttainable  R ealistic  T imely

 A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. specific: clearly and exactly presented or stated; precise or exact

 To set a specific goal you must answer the “W” questions:  What? What do I want to accomplish?  When? When do I plan to accomplish the goal?  Why? Why am I setting this goal?

 Decide how you will be measuring progress toward the goal you set.  To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as……  How much?  How many?  How will I know when it is accomplished?

 When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the joy of achievement that helps you continue to reach your goal!

 When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true.  You develop the attitudes, abilities, and skills to reach them.  You begin seeing opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goal.

 To be realistic, a goal must be something you are both willing and able to do.  You are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be, but be sure that every goal helps you make progress.

 Your goal is probably realistic if you truly believe that it can be accomplished.  Think about…  Have you ever accomplished anything similar in the past?  What conditions would have to exist to accomplish this goal?

 A goal should have a time frame. With no time frame tied to it there’s no sense of urgency.  “Someday” won’t work! If you write your goal with a time, “by the end of the 2 nd quarter”, then you’ve set your mind into motion to begin working on the goal. ___ to ____ by _____________________

 It doesn't matter!  Mr. Edison, the man who invented light bulbs, tried thousands of ways to make light bulbs before he found a way that worked!  And each time he tried something and it didn't work, Mr. Edison said "I've learned another way not to make a light bulb!"  He was happy because he had learned something. Then he tried a NEW way until he got his Goal of making a light bulb!

 Always look for what you can LEARN when something doesn't work!  NEVER, EVER give up! You WILL get your goal in the end!

 “ The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.” ~ Benjamin Mays

 “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” ~Neil Armstrong

 “I've worked too hard and too long to let anything stand in the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down and I will not let myself down.” ~Mia Hamm

 Personal/7 Habits  Academic/School-Related
