2 A Framework for community development By the end of today you should be able to: - discuss a range of skills and tools for undertaking community development.

3 Community development is not just about working with lots of people at once, within existing structures It is often about changing the actual structures of society itself, since these are often the cause of the problems in the first place 3

4 Which is better? Fences at the top of cliffs… Or ambulances at the bottom? 4

5 allowing women to vote Thus reducing unfair legal processes 5

6 Providing adequate public transport So more people can apply for jobs, fewer are isolated... 6

8 Listening to the powerless So we know when our services don’t work 8
